This newsletter is going away.
Hi yall, it’s Bryant. Going forward, I’ll be posting events exclusively on the @asianeventsinaustin Instagram account and will no longer be maintaining this newsletter.
I started Asian Events in Austin back in May 2022 because it was hard to keep up with all the cool Asian artists, communities, and organizations around town. Everyone was doing their thing, but in their own lil corners of Austin without easy visibility into who else was out there. It felt natural to aggregate everything in one place, to start building a shared understanding of the Asian American landscape in Austin.
Since then, 1000+ people have expressed an interest in this effort by following the Instagram account; in that same timeframe, 70 people signed up for the newsletter. As much as I shy away from social media in my personal life, it’s undeniable that Instagram is the more effective medium for this project. It’s also more flexible than a newsletter: I can upload whenever I want, make edits on the fly, and even repost announcements from others as an Instagram Story.
My deepest apologies to anyone who doesn’t use Instagram. If you’re on Facebook, consider joining the Asians in Austin or Asian Creative Network: Texas Facebook Groups. If you’re not on social media at all, the Asian in Austin podcast put together a spreadsheet of Asian Organizations in Austin that you can keep up with individually (I’m personally subscribed to the AAAFF and AARC newsletters). I hope you’ll continue to stay in touch with the Asian American community here that grows more vibrant with each year - see you at a future Asian event in Austin 🤠
